Sheldon Mudd, mining industry specialist for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has been working with the Northern Ontario mining community for over a year.
The message is that Nevada is a highly desirable and viable place to open a business to serve Nevada’s mining operations. The Canadian business representatives said their companies were looking for strategic partnerships and distribution opportunities, as most of them already do business in our area and are considering a physical location here.
During the trip, the delegation toured mine sites and met with representatives from every
major mining operation in Northern Nevada. The group also met with business people involved in economic development in each northern Nevada community.
During their stop in Winnemucca on Thurs. Nov. 2, they enjoyed lunch at the historic Martin Hotel which was funded by SSR Mining and Lander County.
Lander County Planning and Economic Development representative Kyla Bright talked to the business people about what Lander County offers including the ease of doing business and its central location to the lucrative hard rock mining market.
Canadian business people on the tour were primarily from mining-supply companies. Their businesses included:
• industrial engineering
• lithium-based battery-powered equipment for underground mining
• ventilation, machining and fabrication
• security and investigations
• human resources and training
• technology and safety systems
• automated control systems for underground and surface mining equipment.
